Colourisation

Although relatively time-consuming, the addition of colour to a black-and-white photo (colourisation, or colorization as our friends 'over the pond' might say) can be extremely effective, and can really breathe new life into old pictures.

An example of colourisation can be seen here. This is a great picture of my father taken sometime around the late 1950's. The original photo  measured around 2.5 inches square. Following a high-resolution scan, and a bit of Mister Fixer magic, I now have an image which I can print off as 10 x 10 or even larger. Move your mouse over the image to see the result:
