whimple Folk for Whimple folk - a Great Success!

Our Folk Evening was a sell-out, and we ended up with a total of 4 acts on the night...

Firstly, 'Denbury Folk' in their first ever public performance chose a great selection of mainly traditional songs, to get the audience warmed up. The nerves held up and they were very well received. Maybe a start of a new direction for them?

Next up was Davey Malone, who also compered throughout the evening. He played us a selection of his own work, which carried a more modern, rebellious feel in contrast to the previous act.

Davey then introduced Rosie Eade whose lovely voice impressed the audience as she sang mainly her own songs, but interspersed with even a Billy Bragg track!

The final act was Whimple's own Jim Causley. He was evidently pleased to back on his home turf, and this could be felt throughout his set, filled with music, mirth and storytelling. We almost had to drag him off the stage, as I'm sure he would have continued for the rest of the night.

It was a fantastic evening, unbelievable value at £5 per ticket, and we even raised £630 for the Whimple Scouts in the process. All the acts had a great time too, so perhaps we will get them back again at some point.

We hope to repeat this event next year, so if you are a Folk act looking for an opportunity to perform in front of an audience, please contact me.
